In professional field recording and immersive audio capture, off-the-shelf cabling often fails to meet the rigorous physical and acoustic demands of specialized multichannel arrays. To solve this, I designed and built a custom high-performance breakout cable specifically tailored for my three-microphone surround recording kit.
The cable features a robust 7-pin master connector that cleanly splits into three individual XLR connectors with a shared common ground. This custom-engineered configuration drastically reduces cable clutter, eliminates unnecessary bulk in mobile recording rigs, and simplifies setup times during field expeditions. By routing multiple microphone signals through a single, streamlined umbilical line while maintaining optimal shielding and signal integrity, this custom cable ensures pristine, interference-free transmission for complex multi-mic acoustic arrays and surround sound capture.
